Description
This is a vintage, Victorian era medicine bottle embossed, "Parke Davis & Co Chemists - Detroit". The bottom is also embossed with a number I cannot make out. The vintage apothecary bottle is square shaped with the mold seam stopping at the neck. It is cork topped (cork is missing). I have looked at many examples of Parke Davis early bottles and have found none that were exact matches to this one: clear, embossed, with a square shape. In fact, most are brown with paper labels. Parke Davis & Company began doing business in Detroit in 1871. They quickly became established and the word "Chemists" disappeared from marketing. I believe this bottle likely dates between 1871 and the turn of the century. My father, an avid bottle digger, found this bottle more than 40 years ago in the ruins of an old homestead in Virginia. It is in great shape with nice clarity and clear embossing. It does however have a sizable chip on the lip (see photos). It measures about 3" tall and 1.5" wide. For More Information
