Description
offered is a wonderful 1939 art deco enamel automatic plaza concealed compact lighter. the mechanism was first invented in 1939 by robert nyden of new york. it features an unusualconcealed mechanism which
automatically lights upon opening of the lid. the lighter is gold plated with
green female nude
lacquer enamel engine turned design. the inside is marked plaza but this model also comes marked parker and allbright. the parker name is because nyden had a relationship with irving florman who was responsible for all the american dunhill and parker models. i'm not sure of the allbright connection. the plaza measures about 2-1/4" across and is in very good used condition. the lighter was difficult to photo and looks beter in person. the inside is showing some dirt spots that should clean. the spots on front are aged finish and looks better in person. the mechanism throws a strong spark and should work with addition of
petrol
fuel. the plaza lighter comes in numerous lacquer colorways and designs and its quite showy to collect them all.
The nude female is the showiest of all the designs.
Overall - an unusual 1930's art deco
female nude
automatic pocket or purse lighter for your collection.
patent sketch and ad are not included in sale
