Antique 19thC Metal Fire Helmet Eagle Patent Dates 1889-97 Mecklenberg, NY
From an upstate, NY estate. Very decorative antique 19thC metal fire helmet or firefighter hat. Has an eagle at front point. Black paint over silver metal, definitely wearing with a great patina. Crest is missing, but estate identifies that is was worn by a fire fighter from the Mecklenberg, NY rescue squad. Has patent date tag on interior, with worn red felt lining. Also, faded size sticker that appears to read “7 1/2.”
Hat itself measures approx 8” tall x 13 7/8” x 11”.
Hat opening rim measures approx 8.25”x 6.75”z
G condition overall. Eagle is one sided / bent / with crack at neck. Lots of paint wear / patina. And again, crest is missing.
