Antique Silveroin Match Safe Lion vs Snake/Serpent

Description

This match safe is decorated both on the front and back with a life and death battle between a lion and a very long snake. The snake is coiled around the rearing body of the lion. The lion’s head, with jaws wide open, is just over the snake’s head. The snake’s jaws are also wide open, ready to strike. The hinge is good, and the safe snaps closed. There are no dents or dings, just the patina of age. The safe is marked on the interior lip “SILVEROIN”. Silveroin is a non-silver alloy and is a trademark of the Bristol Mfg. Co. of Attleboro, Massachusetts. The match safe dates from C. 1895-1915.
