    Description

    This beautiful antique wooden card box stands 2.5 inches high, is 6 inches deep and 10.5 wide. It is made of a walnut veneer, has a brass decor on the lid representing the four suits and the edges of the lid are tastefully decorated with bone, abalone and mother of pearl.
    The lock has a diamond shape brass
    Escutcheon
    and probably works but there is no key present.
    The inside of the box which has a lightwood veneer contains 4 small counter boxes all with a brass decor on the lid each one representing the 4 suits.
    The counter boxes are made of the same wood as the box itself, a walnut veneer, each one in good condition and lids fitting snugly. The underneath of the boxes has a faux shagreen as does the box itself.
    The middle compartment between the 4 small boxes is for holding the packs of cards.
    This beautiful card box does show some signs of wear, a crack on the underneath, small cracks along one small side, a few small parts of the inlay missing and some surface scratches here and there, but despite its small  flaws it remains a beautiful genuine box of its day.
    It does need a good clean and polish but this will be left up to the new owner to undertake.
