  • Condition: Up for sale is a used Penn Conventional Reel Model 80 in good working condition and good cosmetic condition; this is an old school knuckle buster. It has been cleaned, serviced, and operates well. I am including a leather line stopper which is also called a leather thumb drag or a leather spool control. I do not believe that the original reel came with a leather thumb drag but I have one that fits very nice and will work well on the reel. The eccentric lever release works as expected, the spool spins freely when disengaged and the handle will not turn the reel when disengaged, the heavy-duty clicker functions well, the non-handle side bearing works well, the spool is in good condition, the stand is sound, and the handle works properly. This reel does show signs of wear including boat rash on the chrome parts including the handle, the posts, the bearing covers, the eccentric knob, the foot, and the clicker button. The side plates have minor cracks around two of the two side plates.

    Up for sale is a used Penn Conventional Reel Model 80 in good working condition and
    good cosmetic condition; this is an old school knuckle buster.
    It has been cleaned, serviced, and operates well. I am including a leather line stopper which is also called a leather thumb drag or a leather spool control. I do not believe that the original reel came with a leather thumb drag but I have one that fits very nice and will work well on the reel.

    HISTORICAL REEL INFO:
    The Penn 80 was equipped with Penn's lightweight Easy-Cast spool which produced long casts and reduced backlashes. In addition, the reel was corrosion proof and a great line saver.
    The 80 was one of Penn's popular salt water reels in the 1940's - 1950's, and also available as a left-handed model. In 1950 the price of this 12 oz. reel was .00. Like other older models, this reel was not part of a "series" of reels.
