Description
offered is a fabulous and rare art deco 1932 marathon pocket petrol automatic lighter. the marathon features wonderful mottled and circular black stripe deco enamel finish. the mechanism has skyscraper built up housing with unusual flair out thumb press. the lighter was made in attleboro mass by marathon company. marathon also manufactured compacts - cigarette cases and other men's + woman's accessories. the lighter is marked marathon on the underside bearing a 1932 evans lighter patent. this mechanism was designed by carl lagerholm of evans who also invented the single bar evans liftarm mechanism. the lighter measures 2" tall and is in excellent lite used untested condition. the mechanism has strog tension but is untested and should work with proper service of fuel and flint. if you collect unusual vintage art deco modernist enamel american lighters - do not miss this item. this type swirl mottled lacquer enamel design is quite rare and very showy. overall - an important art deco 1930's marathon automatic one motion mechanism lighter for the best of collections.rare to find so nice - ad - patents are not included in sale - lighter sold as a collectible
