    Description

Rare! Gorgeous! Hand-Blown Glass Pantry Bottle Jar, Apothecary? Early American?
This is a beautiful, rare, strikingly unusual bottle or storage jar.  It  has fascinating construction...hand blown for sure, with a ground-off pontil mark on the bottom, nice bubbles and ripples.  The charming upper rim was fashioned separately and added!  First the body of the jar was blown, then the form was switched to a punty rod, and a small little rim was added, and then the whole thing was heated in the furnace flames to meld the body and rim.  A lot of work!  The jar is decorated with lots of beautiful cut glass decoration, with a flower spray on each side.    The jar is SO LIGHTWEIGHT.  Very beautifully made; a showpiece.
    It is 9.5" x 4/5" x 3" and light as a feather.
I have no idea where this was made, or its original function.  But it is clearly old, with good wear on the base.  It is in nearly perfect condition with only a few light scratches.  The pontil mark was deeply ground off.  I looked very closely, and there is no damage in this area.
