    petrol automatic lighter. the sterling
    silver
    plated lighter features a wonderful sideways automatic snap-out mechanism insert. The lighter mechanism flints thru the release button which is a rare feature to find. The Knapp fuels thru the top screw near wick.  Knapp was an important manufacturer of lighters - cigarette cases - razors and other accessories. the side of insert mechanism is marked Knapp pat. I've shown 2 1947 Gibson lighter ads as it is the same model.  I'm not sure the relationship between Knapp and Gibson and this may be a late 1940's gibson which used the Knapp insert. the desk lighter measures about 3-1/8" tall x 2" wide and is in good to very good used untested condition. the finishhas age tarnish that will clean. the mechanism has
    strong mechanics and may work with proper service but sold as a collectible.  the base is missing the underside felt plate which can easily be replaced.
    overall - a very nice example of a late 1930's or 1940's Knapp automatic table lighter for your collection.
