    Description

Up for auction is a hand blown American museum specimen jar with ground glass lid.  The jar with lid stands approx. 8 ½” high and just the jar without lid is approx. 7 1/4” high.  The jar is 5” wide at the base and is 4 3/4" at the top.  The internal diameter of the mouth of the jar is approx. 3 3/4".  The jar holds approx. 1.65 liters (56 fluid ounces).
The base of the jar has a ground pontil indicating the hand blown nature of this jar. The lid is in nearly perfect condition and has a blown glass hook to hang a specimen from. What appears in the photos to be a crack is a flaw from the manufacture of the lid. The lip of the jar is also nearly perfect. Given its age (probably late 19th or very early 20th century), the jar is in remarkable condition (see photos). The jar is very clear with no noticeable cloudiness.
The jar was probably manufactured by the Whitall Tatum Glass Company as it matches the illustrations in one of their catalogs from 1892.
I have taken several pictures so please look at them carefully and contact me with any questions or concerns. The jar will be packaged very carefully with the lid wrapped separately to assure no damage.
Please look at my other auctions for several other museum jars!
