This listings is for a genuine and original WWII German Army Sterbebild.
Sterbebild are also known as Funeral Cards or Death Notices.
The vast majority of Germans in World War II were Catholics.
Like many funeral services today, a small card (usually baseball card size) were printed with a photo and brief history of the deceased.
This custom has existed for several centuries and was very prevalent during the Second World War.
These particular card was printed in remembrance of:
Karl Pfister
Karl was a Master Sergeant in the Rural Police and held the rank of Staff Sergeant in a motorized Field Police unit.
He was born on September 23, 1908 and fell on July 31, 1942 in Russia.
This card is quite unique in that Karl is wearing the Gorget. The letters on the gorget were actually glow in the dark so that they could be more readily recognized while on duty.
